Our System
At Spring Martial Arts (SMA) the combined systems of Northern Shaolin and Northern Praying Mantis are practiced in the Kung Fu classes. Fundamentals of the martial arts are taught in a safe, fun and exciting environment.

The Northern Shaolin system places its emphasizes on kicking techniques, long hand strikes and circular, continuous movements designed to keep an opponent off balance. The Northern Praying Mantis system features waist-high kicks, in-close use of knees and elbows combined with grabbing and striking techniques.

Our program includes instruction in joint locks and joint manipulation techniques, practical throws, breakfalls and basic tumbling. Students learn aversion and awareness tactics as part of the self-defense curriculum.

Emphasis is placed on proper breathing, stretching and body postures (stances).

We do not advocate violence. The SMA philosophy emphasizes self-defense, sport, fitness and safety in both our youth and adult classes.

Youth Programs - See schedule for class times.
SMA offers separate youth beginner, intermediate and advanced classes. The Youth programs ages range from 4 to 12 years old.

Our Youth Program integrates hard work and fun. Students participate in a wide range of activities that develop motor skills, increase endurance and teach self-defense techniques resulting in lifelong protection. Students reap even greater benefit from the program by gaining self-discipline, self-confidence and self-esteem. Individual attention is provided to each student and progress is noted and encouraged in a positive environment that helps children learn to set goals.

SMA offers activities, team participation and events such as Black Belt Club, Demo Team Extreme™, Tournament Competition Team and Ninja Night.

Adult Program - See schedule for class times.
The Adult Program age is 13 and above.

Every student works to their own level and all students benefit from exposure to martial arts. The physical benefits of martial arts training include improved strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and cardiovascular.

The program concentrates on self-defense and awareness training, movement and reaction drills, physical fitness, self expression through traditional forms, weapons and two-man fighting sets.
